Lustleigh Society Coffee Morning
March 22 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

As well as an opportunity to support the on-going work of the Lustleigh Community Archive and to enjoy coffee, cakes and other refreshments, newly acquired and conserved paintings by Frederick Foot will be on display. The work on the paintings has been funded by a grant from the Pilgrim Trust via the Association of Independent Museums.
Frederick Foot was born in 1831 into a prominent Ashburton family. Although working initially as a solicitor’s clerk, by the age of twenty his career as an artist had begun – for example, six paintings by him of the local area were shown at the Royal Academy between 1857 and 1863. In the 1870s he moved to Lustleigh boarding at Grove Cottage. Now clearly earning his living as an artist he painted numerous pictures around the south east corner of the moor. He remained living in the village until his death in 1908. His body was returned to Ashburton for burial.
There will be a short talk about Frederick Foot at 11.15 by Peter Mason.
Books and pictures of local interest will also be on sale.
