The Italian Garden at Great Ambrook
Speaker – Angela Dodd Compton– 27th September 2023
Angela will take us on a virtual tour of this garden near Ipplepen, a unique and surprising heritage site built just before the First World War. She will then show what it looked like when rediscovered in the late 1980s after being lost under a bramble- and ivy-infested wood for 25 years. She will also discuss those responsible for its creation and maintenance, accompanied by century-old photographs of the relevant people as well as the place.
Angela has spent the last 17 years exploring the history and lives of those associated with this fascinating garden and was successful in getting it Grade-II listed in 2014.
