Lustleigh Society presents: The History of Mearsdon – an illustrated talk by Dr Ian Mortimer.

September 8, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

The History of Mearsdon – an illustrated talk by Dr Ian Mortimer.

Many of you will know of Ian as a long-standing member of the Dartmoor National Park Authority, but his real distinction is as a medieval historian. His many history books have sold over a million copies and been translated into fifteen languages. He is also a published novelist, a poet and a musician.

Ian’s talk will be about the history of Mearsdon, his home in Moretonhampstead, from the13th Century until the present day.  After he and his family moved into their new, very old house, he immediately started looking into its history, and found out even more than he’d expected. His predecessors as residents range from a murderous medieval priest to an imprisoned Baptist minister to a string of medieval Mayors of Exeter. But it is the house itself which is the real star of Ian’s talk, for it tells us much about life on Dartmoor over the last eight centuries.

We are very lucky to have been able to sign Ian Mortimer up to enlighten and entertain us. So, please ensure that you note this event in your diaries: September 8th at 7.30 pm in the Hall.

Our meetings are held at Lustleigh Village Hall,
