DESCRIPTION:Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training. \nBasic life support and CPR skills training with Sarah Brewer and Keith Edwards community training officer for South West Ambulance. \nA two hour training session on Thursday 7th April starting at 7pm. \nA Brief History and How to Book: \nIn 2015 we held some very popular and well received sessions on basic life support and CPR training in the Village Hall. \nThis resulted in the installation of the village defibrillator sited at the Village Hall\, by kind agreement of the Village Hall Management Committee and kindly sponsored by the Lustleigh Association Of Volunteer Drivers\, LADS. \nThere has been recent discussion on the LADS committee about arranging further CPR training sessions. \nThe sudden collapse of a relative friend or neighbour is difficult to cope with but having the confidence to assess\, call for help and administer basic life support whilst waiting for emergency services to arrive can be a life saver. \nAlthough many of us may have these skills they soon become rusty and it is important to practice them and keep up to date. \nSarah Brewer and Keith Edwards the community training officer for South West Ambulance are planning a series of training sessions which we hope to arrange in April. \nWe will be holding 2 hour sessions for 12 people in the village hall that will cover basic life support\, recognition of stroke and other medical emergencies. \nThe sessions will be free but we suggest a contribution to a charity of your choice. \nPlease contact me if you would like to attend one of these sessions and we will confirm dates as soon as we can. DESCRIPTION:We will be restarting choir on Monday Feb.28th. (7.45pm)  In order to keep safe we will split the choir to start with by having Sopranos and Altos only on Feb 28 with the Tenors and Basses the following week (March 7th) and continue this pattern for a while – S&A (14th) T&B (21st) \nAlso I can hear individual voices better!  Just joking!  It will cost us a little more and we are getting a bit short on funds considering the three more numbers we have had to get printed to complete the Lustleigh Cantata.  The plan is to perform this with orchestra at a concert when we are ready!  So can you please contribute £10 to our treasurer Francis when we meet up. \nIf there are any further residents who would like to try out some singing please come along – ladies Feb 28\,  men Mar. 7.  You don’t have to be good or have any singing experience.    There are no auditions. \nLooking forward to seeing you all\,\nWill.

SUMMARY:The Lustleigh Music Society presents - Divertimento String Quartet Concert
DESCRIPTION:Divertimento Concert \nUnless the covid situation deteriorates badly we will go ahead with our next planned Divertimento String Quartet concert.  Masks and Distancing will be observed and so we should all be able to keep safe. \nThe main work in the programme is the String Quartet No.2 in G minor by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen (1865-1931). He is one of the giants of Scandinavian music and his 6 symphonies are all great works and in the mainstream of the symphonic repertoire. His string quartets are relatively early works in his output. There is an unnumbered quartet in D minor from 1882 unpublished in his lifetime.  Next comes the G minor quartet completed in 1888 but not performed until 10 years later and published in 1900 and in a revised edition that became the 2nd of the 4 quartets to be published. \nIt is in 4 movements: Allegro energico/Andante amoroso/ Scherzo: Allegro molto/ Finale: Allegro inquieto.  There is a certain quirkiness in his writing often with unexpected modulations which is particularly discernable in the Scherzo\, but overall\, the lasting impression is that it is an attractive\, lyrical and tuneful work. \nThe supporting pieces in the programme are Dowland (Flow my Tears)\, Mathew Locke (Suite in D minor) and Caroline Shaw (Entr’acte). \nLustleigh Village Hall\, Sunday  Feb.20th  at 3.00pm  Adults £15.00  Students and children Free. Tickets at the Dairy or On the Door. \nA further concert is being planned for Saturday April 30th with an augmented Divertimento to play sextets by Spohr and Brahms.

DESCRIPTION:AGM AND LUNCH \nSATURDAY 15TH JANUARY  2022 – 12 NOON IN THE VILLAGE HALL \nWe will be holding a reasonably socially distanced but friendly lunch\, gathered at smaller tables rather than one big scrum\, in the main hall preceded by the AGM.  In order to entice you to attend the very brief business session we would like to welcome you with a glass of mulled wine at 12.00\, hold the meeting at 12.30 p.m. and settle to our three -course lunch at 1.00p.m or as near as we can get.  There will be a glass of wine and a choice of a main dish and of deserts plus tea and coffee. \nNon-members are of course welcome and this will be a chance for us all to start again fresh with our subscriptions for 2022. DESCRIPTION:We hope those of you who were able to attend enjoyed Ian Mortimore’s excellent talk earlier this month on the history of his house in Moretonhampstead. There was a full turnout and the usual enthusiastic Lustleigh audience!  \nNext we have Nigel Overton and his talk on the history of the Eddystone lighthouse to look forward to. It will take place on the 20th October in the Hall at 7.30pm. Nigel is the former City and Maritime Heritage Curator at Plymouth Museums.  \nSituated some nine miles south-west of Rame Head in Cornwall\, the Eddystone Rocks have always been a treacherous hazard for ships in the approaches both to the English Channel and to Plymouth Sound. Nigel promises us a fascinating insight into the history of the Lighthouse built precariously on those rocks to safeguard shipping. Narthen are noted for their powerful four-part harmonies whether that’s ‘A Capella’ or in haunting accompanied songs – they are also accomplished instrumentalists. Their songs are evocative\, poignant and moving. \n“Then\, when it seemed that the emotional ante could not be upped any further\, the band’s sing-along rendition of Sarah Lynch’s eco-anthem “More Waters Rising” had the crowd roaring all the way through to their triumphant set-closer\, John Denver’s heartfelt plea for peace “Let Us Forgive”. DESCRIPTION:The History of Mearsdon – an illustrated talk by Dr Ian Mortimer. \nMany of you will know of Ian as a long-standing member of the Dartmoor National Park Authority\, but his real distinction is as a medieval historian. His many history books have sold over a million copies and been translated into fifteen languages. He is also a published novelist\, a poet and a musician. \nIan’s talk will be about the history of Mearsdon\, his home in Moretonhampstead\, from the13th Century until the present day.  After he and his family moved into their new\, very old house\, he immediately started looking into its history\, and found out even more than he’d expected. His predecessors as residents range from a murderous medieval priest to an imprisoned Baptist minister to a string of medieval Mayors of Exeter. But it is the house itself which is the real star of Ian’s talk\, for it tells us much about life on Dartmoor over the last eight centuries. \nWe are very lucky to have been able to sign Ian Mortimer up to enlighten and entertain us. DESCRIPTION:Unusually\, we will be holding an evening talk in September on Wednesday 1st at 7:30pm in the Village Hall. We will be using the larger room\, so plenty of space for new members and friends\, but also to give us the option of some social distancing. \nThis will be the first in our new series of evening meetings and will be illustrated talk by Nicky Grady Scott. (You might recognise him as a founder of Proper Job and of Moor Flowers). We will get to hear about the role of composting from the point of view of being a Master Composter and the connection to the environment\, especially in current times. Nicky has also been responsible for the community composting at Chagford. \nThere are more than a few skilled\, knowledgeable gardeners in Lustleigh we know\, but in recent conversations it turned out there was lots to say and think about around composting\, so come with your questions. Maybe you are already wedded to one method or wanting to keep going but on a lesser scale or even to scale up…? And what does happen to all that stuff that goes in our green bins? \nWe really look forward to seeing you and to us starting again. Membership for this year has been suspended. He hopes to make contact with other life forms. His neighbour\, Gwen\, thinks he should be exploring the unknown much closer to home… \nA cosmic comedy about obsession and the rekindling of love\, hope and possibility… \nThis is not a Village Hall Event\, it is advertised here as part of the promotion on behalf of LEAP.

DESCRIPTION:LUSTLEIGH DRAMA GROUP PRESENTS \nA ‘live radio’ performance of \n‘THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES’ \nBy Sir Arthur Conan Doyle \nIn the Village Hall Studio \nFRIDAY 2ND AND SATURDAY 3RD of JULY at 7.30 pm \nCome and enjoy the classic days of live drama on ‘the wireless’\, when accents were truly BBC and sound effects inventive! \nLustleigh Drama Group are delighted to once again be able to produce home-grown talent to amuse our local community. \nThis atmospheric tale features Holmes and Watson battling supernatural happenings and dastardly schemes against a backdrop of Dartmoor at its most forbidding\, and is sure to both thrill and amuse. \nTICKETS are £7 for adults and £4 for under 16s. Tickets will be available from the Dairy – please look for a poster outside the shop. If you buy from the shop\, please leave your name and phone number in the notebook provided.
