SUMMARY:Lustleigh Society Coffee Morning
DESCRIPTION:As well as an opportunity to support the on-going work of the Lustleigh Community Archive and to enjoy coffee\, cakes and other refreshments\, newly acquired and conserved paintings by Frederick Foot will be on display.  The work on the paintings has been funded by a grant from the Pilgrim Trust via the Association of Independent Museums. \nFrederick Foot was born in 1831 into a prominent Ashburton family.  Although working initially as a solicitor’s clerk\, by the age of twenty his career as an artist had begun – for example\, six paintings by him of the local area were shown at the Royal Academy between 1857 and 1863.  In the 1870s he moved to Lustleigh boarding at Grove Cottage.  Now clearly earning his living as an artist he painted numerous pictures around the south east corner of the moor.  He remained living in the village until his death in 1908.  His body was returned to Ashburton for burial. \nThere will be a short talk about Frederick Foot at 11.15 by Peter Mason. \nBooks and pictures of local interest will also be on sale. \nFREE ENTRY

SUMMARY:The Lustleigh Society presents...TEN AMAZING DAYS
DESCRIPTION:                                                         The Lustleigh Society \n                                                       Speaker – Clive Charlton \n                                              22nd February 2023 – 7.15 for 7.30 \nThe “Ten Amazing Days” was the short but dramatic period the “fallen emperor” Napoleon spent in  Plymouth Sound in the summer of 1815\, following his surrender to the British in the wake of the defeat at Waterloo. The talk will include Napoleon’s surrender\, his journey from Rochefort on board HMS Bellerophon\, the excitement\, controversy and tensions of his stay in the ship just off Plymouth\, and his departure into exile on St Helena. There will also be coverage of the career of HMS Bellerophon\, by 1815 a battered and much travelled man-of-war. \nPlease join us Lustleigh Village Hall. \nCome and join us and have a glass of wine. \nContact – Lynn Bartlett – 07852 998153 – jackchi4@gmail.com

SUMMARY:The Lustleigh Society presents - The River Bovey from source to the Teign Speaker – John Risdon
DESCRIPTION:The Lustleigh Society \nWednesday 26th May – 7.15 for 7.30pm. \nThe River Bovey from source to the Teign. \nSpeaker – John Risdon. \nThis talk is a journey of celebration across one of Devon’s most beautiful and fascinating area’s down the Bovey. \nJohn’s talk will be enhanced by a variety of photographs that he has taken himself while walking along this fascinating journey. \nOur meetings are held at Lustleigh Village Hall. \nPlease come and join us for a sociable glass of wine before the meeting. \nNon-members welcome. \nPlease contact Lynn on 01647 277528 if you would like any other information. \nEmail-jackchi4@gmail.com \nAs Covid restrictions will still be in place it will restrict the number of people that will be able to attend this meeting “the current number being 60”. \nIn order not to disappoint\, we have on this occasion decided that it would be justified in asking people to book a seat. We are trying to avoid members travelling over\, only to find that the quota for the hall has been filled and we would have to turn members away. This is something that we want to avoid at any cost\, as our membership is greatly valued. \nTherefore\, we would ask that you contact Lynn using the above email or landline to reserve your seats. \n
